Construction Industry and Employment Screening
Smaller construction companies tend not to conduct comprehensive background and drug screening, making them especially susceptible to hiring applicants with a history of criminal activity or substance abuse. This practice unnecessarily exposes the company to losses should an employee cause harm to a client or a client's property.
Larger building outfits realize the value of background and drug screening, and regularly screen their applicants. However, builders with a wide footprint often allow managers in the field to choose their own screening providers.
Disadvantages to this practice include not receiving the best pricing based on volume, the inability to consolidate billing, disparate screening standards, lack of centralized control and a lack of accountability.
